Today,
The BMW Motorrad Motorsport team’s participation in the’07 German Cross Country Championship came to a closelast weekend where team rider Simi Kirssi experiencedmixed fortunes during the two-hour race at Schweinfurt. Notmaking the best of starts the Finn furiously worked his waypassed slower riders during the opening laps of the race only to find himself having to stop mid-way through the event when his bike’s fuel cap became dislodged. Soaking him in fuel Simo was forced to make an unscheduled pit where hechanged his race jeans before once again taking to the trackand charging through the pack.
Despite his less than perfect start to the race, and then losing valuable time in the pits having been forced to stop mid-way through the race, the final round of the GCC series ended in an extremely encouraging way for both Simo and the whole BMW Motorrad Motorsport team. During the closing stages of the race Simo, a rider that on many occasions this season has shown flashes of brilliance while playing a key role in the development of BMW’s new 450 sports enduro bike, outpaced countryman and former Enduro 2 World ChampionSamuli Aro. Despite being several laps down on the Aro atthe time Simo caught, battled with, and eventually outpacedthe rider that would eventually be crowned as the ‘07 GCCchampion. In doing so Simo showed the true potential ofBMW’s 450 sports enduro bike and brought a long seasonof development to an extremely positive close.
With the final round of the GCC series bringing to a close the first chapter of the development of BMW’s prototype 450sports enduro team, the BMW Motorrad Motorsport teamwill now continue to develop the exciting new bike ahead oftheir participation in indoor enduro events this winter.Markus Theobald (development department): “The storyof the fuel tank cap is stupid, but it can happen and that’sexactly why we have been competing in selected races thisseason - it’s one of the things you have to find out by racing.
At this race, following our successful completion of the final round of the World Enduro Championship, it was really important to see that the bike performed without problems during a tough cross-country race, which it did. Simo was really able to ride the bike to its full potential and it has brought the ‘07 GCC championship season to an extremely satisfactory end.”

Famous GEICO Motorcycle personality "Big Rick" Hoffman of Logic Motors has created an exclusive GEICO CHOPPER for auction in support of Bikers for Tykes. The event was held on the GEICO campus in Chevy Chase and has become an annual fundraiser for local charities. This year, Bikers for Tykes will be hosted in 3 (…)

Having never had the pleasure to personally meet Bruce Rossmeyer, motorcycle guru to the Nth degree, or Jesse Rooke, innovator extraordinaire, I have heard much about both men and their larger than life accomplishments.
It is quite amazing that these two outside-the-box individuals have not hooked up for a custom bike project sooner. The Rossmeyer Flyer encompasses the forward thinking of design and a genuine love of two-wheeled works of art.
Bruce, owner of more than a few Harley-Davidson dealerships-including the world’s largest, in Daytona-has been granted sole responsibility for expanding the annual Bike Week celebration to Beach Street, which is where the Daytona shop is nestled. Aside from accumulating a network of H-D dealerships, he has also built Destination Daytona, a 150-acre playground for H-D enthusiasts, which houses two hotels, condominiums, restaurants, motorcycle themed bars, and an amphitheater. Also located in the land of Harley is the Destination Daytona Museum, where the original Rossmeyer Flyer will find permanent residence.
On the other side of this build up-and country for that matte-is the shockingly talented Mr. Rooke from Huntington Beach, CA. He has incorporated his experience with various motorsports into his bike fabrication and had said work featured on Discovery Channel’s Biker Build-Off. His ability to blend and adapt influences into the unique persona of each custom he builds is definitely a gift. Always known for his sleek and liberating designs, Jesse utilized a version of his old-school Kali Kruiser frame for the Rossmeyer Flyer original, number 13, and the following three replicas, numbered 1, 2, and 3. These replicas were sold at select Rossmeyer H-D dealerships and delivered during last year’s Biketoberfest. The pairing of beautifully executed design and accessible distribution seems to be custom chopper nirvana.
The third component of the Rossmeyer/Rooke collaboration is the Flyer itself. With its streamlined liquidity, the Kali Kruiser 2, or K2, rigid frame has only been produced four times and features a 36-degree rake and a 3-inch stretch. The original Kali Kruiser measures in with a 40-degree rake and similar stretch. The design of this frame and its front suspension closely resembles that of a beach cruiser bicycle so much that I found myself searching for pedals upon first glance. The only suspension equipped on this bike comes from the Rooke Customs’ Nanna front fork and shock. Another eye-catching aspect of the Rossmeyer Flyer is the baffle-separated, combination oil/gas tank. Hidden inside lucky number 13 is a 4-quart oil tank and a 2.8-gallon gas reservoir, which can fuel a 100-mile cruise on a full tank.
Wheels are always a major focal point on a custom build. Never one to follow conformity, Jesse treated the Flyer to an exclusive set of rollers, courtesy of Performance Machine. The Jesse Rooke “Seven” wheels have been anodized and lovingly married to Dunlop E3 rubber. The front 21×3.5-inch wheel has been wrapped in a 90/90×21 tire and the rear 18×8.5-inch wheel sports a 250 tire. These beautifully simplistic, seven spoke wheels were produced by PM with direct consultation from Jesse himself. The bike is also equipped with exclusive PM prototype brake systems-rotors and calipers, at both ends. The anodized PM hand controls and Todd’s Cycles grips have been matched to the wheels and make for great companion pieces.
With the frame and wheels well taken care of, Jesse focused his attention to the bike’s power. For this next phase of the Flyer’s build Jesse turned to Mike Garrison, engineer and designer, at Engenuity Motor Company. The 120ci Twin Cam Evo engine is dressed with a billet top end and is another one-off, custom addition that Jesse has incorporated into this very special construction. A Mikuni carburetor and a Rooke Customs 2-into-1 stainless exhaust system have been added to the performance department. A Baker-right-side drive, six-speed transmission finds a welcoming home inside the of the K2 frame. A PM primary drive, final drive, and foot controls are also used to get this bike in gear and in motion.
When it came time to spray on the paint and powdercoating, Jesse kept local Huntington Beach establishments in the loop. Matt Polosky at Color Zone Designs, performed the handsomely striking paint job. The lettering across the upper front of the bike echoes the nostalgic cues of the K2’s beach cruiser soul. Black, Pearl white, Ruby red, and gold outlining all blend perfectly to lend to the Flyer’s beaming personality. Rooke then turned to Kelly Inman at Specialized Coatings for all his powder coating needs. The laid back and cool attitude of the Flyer must stem from its birth on the West Coast beaches.
Accessories are sometimes said to make the outfit, right? Well, it couldn’t be accurate in the case of the Rossmeyer Flyer. More of Jesse’s personal touches are easily visible on his custom fabbed rear fender, handlebars, and license mount. A Hot Match kickstand, CCI headlight, and a Todd’s Cycle original seat all play huge roles in the smooth flow of yet another Rooke Customs masterpiece.
The entire build process lasted only 120 days-a mere four months. Although the original number 13 is in for an extended stay at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, three extremely lucky owners have the rare honor to gaze at and rev up the engine on this utterly gorgeous cycle. Keep your eyes peeled for Jesse, as he will be competing in this year’s Artistry In Iron competition at the Las Vegas Bikefest. Rooke was granted entrance to this prestigious event through the Rossmeyer Flyer’s Radical Class win at last year’s Vegas Bikefest. We have always expected the absolute best from him, and look forward to gracing our pages with his next work of art.
